Orange Village Committee on Social Justice and Racial Equity Formation Document

With the establishment of the Orange Village Committee on Social Justice and Racial Equity, we begin the next step in the process of exploring public engagement and discussion in the pursuit of the appropriate policies and actions by the Council, administration, and community. The formation of an initial work group will begin the development of the process and thereby provide the basis for a larger engagement once there is clarity in the effort to:

  • define goals and objectives;
  • determine introductory programs;
  • create alliances;
  • identify opportunities; and
  • recognize resources and resident commitment to address the previously noted items.

Purpose: Big Audacious Goal (BAG) of the Social Justice and Racial Equity Committee (the ‘Committee”) is to:

  • develop a community-wide understanding of the state of social justice and racial equity;
  • identify and better understand our community via open dialogue;
    guide discussion to avoid potential misunderstandings that may result in division;
  • promote understanding and unity; and
  • recommend to the Orange Village Council and Administration concrete actions to create opportunities for positive change.

Chairs: The Co-Chairs are Councilman Judson Kline and Councilwoman Staci Adelman Vincent.

Membership: The Chair(s) may determine the number and qualifications of members of the Committee. Committee members will be appointed and subject to the approval of a majority of Council. The committee may communicate and engage with other municipalities in the pursuit of common areas of understanding and interest.

Meetings: Meetings of the Committee will be called by the Chair(s). Pursuant to Chapter 105 of the Codified Ordinances of Orange Village all meetings shall be properly noticed by the Chair who is calling the meeting and all Committee meetings shall be open to the public. The Chair(s) will select a member of the Committee to serve as secretary who shall be responsible for keeping meeting minutes that shall be prepared and available for public inspection, then kept in the Council office after approval by the Committee. The committee will promulgate rules and/or guidelines for its work. The committee will report to the full council determinations, programs, and proposal for action by council.

Budget/Staff: As the Committee has no established budget or staff, any request for either will be made to the Council for authorization or approved.
