Limited Salting Policy

While Orange Village is currently not impacted by the salt shortage, we are proactively implementing a limited salting policy. This policy will apply to Village side streets during snow events. Streets will continue to be plowed. Salt will be applied only in hazardous areas, such as hills, curves, and intersections. This approach allows us to maintain safety while conserving materials during prolonged winter conditions.

It is also important to note that road salt (sodium chloride) becomes significantly less effective in melting ice when the temperatures drop below 15-20°F.  Although the melting point for road salt is up to -6°F, its melting speed becomes too slow for de-icing the roads in extreme cold.
