ECLIPSE GLASSES
On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America and Orange Village is in the path of totality.
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon casts its shadow on the Earth as it passes between the Earth and the Sun. A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon appears to totally obscure the Sun. Within the path as the Moon covers the last 1% of the Sun’s bright face in less than a minute’s time, the daylight fades by a factor of up to 1,000!
This will be an exciting celestial event. The last total solar eclipse visible in Ohio was in 1806. The next total solar eclipse in Ohio will be in the year 2099. Click here for more information concerning the eclipse.
Safety is the number one priority when viewing a total solar eclipse and we want Orange Village residents to enjoy the day safely. It is never safe to look directly at the sun’s rays, even if the sun is partially obscured. The only safe way to look directly at a partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose eclipse glasses. Orange Village administration will provide up to three (3) pair of eclipse glasses to each household, while supplies last.
Residents may pick up their glasses, prior to March 29, 2024, at Orange Village Police Department, 4600 Lander Road – Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Please bring photo identification.
