This year the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District is hosting a pilot composting program for undecorated pumpkins and gourds.

Special 20-yard collection containers will be placed at three locations in Cuyahoga County. Just toss your pumpkins into the containers and they will be transported to a compost facility.

Here are the guidelines:

• ACCEPTED: Unbagged, undecorated pumpkins that are intact and decaying, carved jack-o-lanterns, and gourds.
• NOT ACCEPTED: Cornstalks, hay bales, yard waste, kitchen waste, and outdoor organic decor.
• NOT ACCEPTED: Pumpkins that have been bleached, chemically treated, painted, or drawn on with permanent markers.
• Do NOT put pumpkins in your yard waste collection.
• Do NOT include plastic or bags.

Pumpkin composting will be held from Monday, October 30 through Sunday, November 5, 2023 at the following locations:

• Garfield Heights: Solid Waste District HQ, 4750 East 131st St.
