The Orange Village Service Department reports that the Village is starting to be impacted by the Emerald Ash borer. The Emerald Ash Borer is an exotic green beetle that strictly targets ash trees and is killing millions of trees in Ohio as well as many other States in the U.S. Early indication appears as death to the tree canopy or the “top” of the tree. Limbs become leafless as tree death starts. The larvae feed on the inner bark of the tree preventing water and nutrient transfer in the tree. In most cases tree death is certain once infected.

The Service Department has been removing trees infected with the Emerald Ash borer. Recommendations on how to destroy the larvae include chipping the material, turning it into lumber or burning it. As the Service Department researches the best way to manage this issue, we will be offering the delivery of ash logs to residents who may use it as firewood for your fireplace or wood burners. Logs range in size from 6″-30″ in diameter and 8′-10′ long. Requests will be on a first come first serve basis as material is made available.
